Brian Butler is the Director of the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at the Joseph Business School in Forest Park, IL which he was brought on to launch in 2018. He assists companies in expanding their current export business and with starting to export. He does this by combining his 20+ years of international business development experience with resources available at the International Trade Center as well as with grants and programs offered by the State of Illinois Office of Trade and Investment (OTI), the US Commercial Service, the EXIM Bank, the Chicago Regional Growth Corporation, and many other global assistance entities.a.
He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and has developed export markets for US manufacturers by establishing and developing overseas distribution networks via distributors, sales/service agents, and joint venture partners. He has done business in 20 Latin American and Caribbean markets which included extensive travel as well as local assignments while living in Colombia, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Haiti. He has also done business with Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
Brian has undergraduate degrees in International Business and Spanish from Benedictine University (Lisle, IL), an international MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at ASU and is a CGBP (NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional). He also currently serves on the board of directors of the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago and the advisory board of the Global Chamber Chicago.
