Kirk Samson, Director

Kirk Samson is the head of Samson Atlantic LLC, a consulting firm which helps companies with global market research, political risk analysis, site selection assistance and incentives negotiation. A former U.S. diplomat, military officer, and Department of Defense international law adviser, Kirk has over twenty years of experience of working overseas and negotiating with foreign governments and high-level officials. His writings on global trade and political risk issues have been published by Gallup, Global Trade Magazine, the European Business Magazine, and in Global Risk Insights, a UK-based group where he also serves as a Senior Analyst.

Kirk is an active speaker on international trade and cross-cultural communication issues, and has been featured as a presenter at events by the Chicago Booth Alumni Club of Chicago, the Bankers Association for Finance and Trade (BAFT), the National Association of Credit Management (NACM), the Food Export Member State Marketing Meeting and also by institutions such as the George C. Marshall Center in Germany, the Baltic Defense College, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center in Ghana, and the Netherlands Defense Academy.

Kirk holds a JD from the University of Wisconsin, an MA from the University of Minnesota, an MBA from Thunderbird and is a graduate of Air War College. In addition to his position as a Director at ITA/GC, Kirk is the Vice President for Programs at the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago. He holds a staff position at Northwestern University negotiating with corporations and foundations in support of international research efforts.
